Narcissists, Sociopaths and Psychopaths con the general public.
It is estimated that one in 14 people has attachment disorder, reactive attachment disorder, narcissistic personality disorder, dual diagnosis of substance abuse and an Axis 2 diagnosis etc. What does this mean? As a therapist, this means that I am working with more character disturbed younger people then presented with these bone chilling disturbances than I did twenty years ago. As a therapist I am actively participating in navigating the horror these characters create in the wake of their tantrums, their vengeance their vindictive behaviors, gas lighting, smear campaigns, stalking, Hoovering and reappearing in the lives of their targets in order to not allow them to escape their deadly grasp. Narcs and Sociopaths let their children starve and do not protect them.
Narcissists do not care if their children live or die EXCEPT for how that impacts them particularly with how that impacts their persona or the view the public has of them. Aside from caring about what people think about them, they have no use for their children. Children are objects that are viewed either as extension of the parent or as pawns in the parents games of wearing a mask of , “great parent” and/or getting favorable public attention. They most often reverse the roles “parentifying” the children, which is now defined as a form of child abuse . The narcissistic truly does not know what is appropriate and since they have no instinct to love, nurture, protect or care for their child, they cannot relate to these feelings and give themselves away when they act on their own impulses and thinking.
